RCRC - About Us
Deon van Deventer
(Head of Rugby)
"Rathkeale College is excited about the future direction and opportunities that are presenting themselves in regards to rugby at the school.
In 2016 the 1st XV had one of its best years in recent times. Playing in the Central North Island 1st XV Competition is a big plus for Rathkeale and we are the only school in the Wairarapa to be included in this very strong competition. All the participating schools have the same ethos regarding sport and their school environment. To play in this competition is an exciting draw card for students. Playing rugby in this environment provides young men the opportunity to build relationships under the umbrella of the high levels of sportsmanship expected in our schools.
The success of the Colts team in the last few years is a huge plus. The growth of our younger players has provided us with a very strong base of players preparing to move into 1st XV rugby.
The 2nd XV (development team) played in the 2016 Wairarapa 1st XV competition where they reached the final, and also against other development teams within the CNI competition.
Our Junior teams had a very successful 2016 with both teams playing against each other in the final of the Wairarapa Under 15 competition.
Rathkeale rugby is fortunate to be supported by the RCRC - an initiative that has come about through a passionate rugby community at the school who have identified what needs to be done in order to continue to strengthen our rugby program:"
(RCRC Chairperson 2017)
"The Rathkeale College Rugby Club has been created to support all levels of Rugby at Rathkeale College.
With more demands on top level College rugby in New Zealand we see a need to provide our players with the best coaching, resources and facilities that we can. We need to create an environment where the rugby experience at Rathkeale is enjoyable, safe and successful.
The Club will also enable our supporters to become more involved and reconnect old boys to relive with their team mates the Glory days of old."
